Christmas: It's (NOT) The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

(I know this is not posted on Christmas day bus I began writing this on Christmas day and am just posting it now)

Today is Christmas Day and here is my honest opinion of Christmas. I'm not gonna say I HATE Christmas but I do strongly dislike Christmas and let me tell you why.

1. I didn't know what Christmas was until I was 7 years old when I learn about it at school

2. So because of that it has never (and still doesn't) had any signifance to me

3. It's just an INSANE MASS CONSUMERISM MARKETING PLOY made my Coca Cola - seriously it's scary

4. The Western world has a certain image of what Christmas should be and it doesn't translate well to those who aren't from the West. For example in Japan, Christmas is a couples Holiday. Christmas in Japan is more like Valentines Day 2.0 as it is for people in relationships to go out on dates and do lovey dovey stuff - and for some reason eating fried chicken is the 'thing you're supposed to eat on Christmas' in Japan. It's totally warped.

5. All my life I have lived in a lower-middle class environment. Solo parent = solo income and things have always been tough when it comes to finances. So with Christmas literally being the most ridiulous materiasm spaz fest that it is we could hardly afford to buy eachother mass gifts like you see in all the ads and movies.

6. Basically it makes me feel like Christmas can only be celebrated by wealthy upper-middle class rich white people because that's how it is represented in the media and unfortunatly living in NZ it seems to be semi-true.

7. I can't relate or connect to the idea of what Christmas is supposed to be all about. Spending time with family, bonding, celebrating, loving, socialising etc I just can't and I know this because of culture differences which is fine. I just don't have the 'christmas spirit' because you can't if you don't have the foundation for that.

8. PEOPLE ARE CRAZY during November and Decemeber. I work in retail so I KNOW how legitimitelly batshit crazy people get during Christmas. They are stressed, unorganised, trying to do too many things at once and uncomplishing very little - THEY ARE JUST SILLY STRESSED SPENDERS!

HOWEVER!!!

I am not a total grinch, there are several things I DO LIKE about Christmas and that is because it relates to things that I like and are important to me such as .....

ANIME BOYS!!

Things I DO Like about Christmas time

1. Christmas themes applied to any Anime I like.

2. There are SALES EVERYWHERE in the Mall which I love because I am a Bargain Hunter

3. People can be more giving during this time of year which can be nice

4. Lots of work hours! My part-time job is at a retail shop inside Christchurch's primary mall so it's super busy during this time which makes the long hours go by faster. I love making my moo-lah.

5. Christmas means I will get a day off and that is what I look forward to since working in retail can be energy draining especially since I am intensly introverted. Christmas day is my day off to just spend time on me and the things important to me.

Just some examples of Anime figures that are 'christmas' themed.

But hey Chrismtas 2016 will be TOTALLY different and I so excited to experience Chrostmas in Japan. And who knows maybe I will have a special person to share it with.
